"Sadly, there are only 2,000 bottles and 150 magnums of the extraordinary 1997 Cote Rotie La Landonne. The wine is aged in small oak casks, of which 66% are new. Made from 100% Syrah, it boasts a black/purple color as well as a sumptuous nose of roasted meats, black fruits, minerals, scorched earth, and licorice. This superb, fabulously concentrated wine has plenty of sweet tannin in addition to gorgeous layers of fruit and extract. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2020."
"Marvelous, rich and dense, with the typical Syrah smells of leather, black pepper and earthy horse stable. Fine tannin structure makes this a pleasurable, full-bodied red on release. Smooth, blackberry-scented finish. Not imported into the U.S. Drink now through 2005. 165 cases made. _PM"
